ETSU football fans are perplexed by what happened with a celebration cannon gone awry.

Johnson City, Tennessee will never be the same after Thursday night’s ETSU football game.

Not since Old Crow Medicine Show gave us “Wagon Wheel” or the Head Ball Coach played all the sports at Science Hill High School has Johnson City mattered this much to us all. During the ETSU Buccaneers’ home game vs. Mars Hill, a celebration cannon went off prematurely during an extra-point attempt. It was almost as bad as Darius Rucker ruining this sacred Bob Dylan masterpiece.

This is what happens when you get a little too fired up like Matt Andersen on the ole acoustic.

Oh, you made a mistake at work, eh?

Was it "firing a cannon too early, causing your team to miss an XP" bad? pic.twitter.com/M1BncTcsur

I don’t know if this how you greet people in Saskatchewan, but all of Johnson City was hoping for Raleigh that they could see their Buccaneers win tonight.

ETSU still won very easily over Mars Hill 44-7, but this is all we will remember from the game.

Why act like you’ve been in the end zone before when you can go viral unintentionally? This is the type of content our souls crave. Unless you hail from Johnson City, did you know there was a game going on the other night? No publicity is bad publicity, as we all know that the ETSU Buccaneers are not only a wagon, but they shoot off cannons when they hit pay dirt, maybe a bit prematurely?

“Wagon Wheel” might be about have been about hitchhiking down south and using a Bob Dylan chorus to bring us all back home. But what it is mostly about is bourbon, banjoes, and fiddles. If you don’t think the song is important to the fabric of the world, then why in the hell do you listen to Mumford and Sons on the reg? O.C.M.S. walked so Mumford and Sons could run, to be honest.

If you didn’t sing this song with your friends in a field somewhere in college, were you even alive? I will think less of you, but two can play that game, just like in a game of football, where the only thing that matters is putting one more point on the board than your opponent. Can you imagine if ETSU lost to Mars Hill by a single point? It would be worse than Hootie singing “Wagon Wheel.”

The big takeaway from all this is the ETSU football team has a celebratory cannon, which is dope.
