We have the R32, the R33, the R34, and R35 going head-to-head in an epic performance comparison, so let's see who comes out on top.
The Nissan GT-R is one of the most legendary sports cars ever made. The car, also known as the Skyline GT-R, is one of the finest JDM cars ever made, and the modern iteration can still turn heads. How do they compare against each other, though? Well, Mat Watson of carwow has brought together every generation of the GT-R from the R32 to the modern R35 to find out how they all compare.
The R32 GT-R was the first iteration of the GT-R, with its aggressive front-end, wider wheel arches and various other mods to set it apart from the standard Skyline. The R33 followed the R32 in 1995, and Nissan stepped up the aggression further with the bodykit featuring the huge grille, and the GT-R badge in the grille for the first time.
The R34 came out in 1999, perhaps the ultimate iteration of the GT-R. This car really stands out compared to the standard R34 Skyline, with its huge rear wing, the diffuser at the back and the even more aggressive front-end. The R35 came out in 2007, and of course is a standalone car. It's beefy, it's big, and it's wild. It’s a fantastic car, this one in particular being the Nismo version.

Each GT-R has various iterations of the famous RB26 engine, starting with the 280 hp of the R32 to the 340 hp of the R34, although all iterations slightly ignored the Gentlemen's Agreement in Japan to keep power at 280 hp, with the R32 actually producing around 300 hp. And of course, the R35 produces a staggering 600 hp from its 3.8-liter V6 twin-turbo engine in this Nismo variant.
All cars feature all-wheel drive, with Nissan debuting a new system on the R32, and the fact it had rear-steering in the 1990s is very impressive. The various generations drove well through all the generations, with the R35 providing the most brutal, grippy and extreme driving experience. As Watson says, it is an absolute animal.

Watson puts each car through a 0-60 mph test as well, and the R32 did that run in 7.12 seconds, and it made a great sound. The 1/4-mile was quickly reached in 15.55 seconds. The R33 did 0-60 mph in 6.63 seconds, while it did the 1/4-mile in 15.01 seconds. Onto the R34 now, and it reached 0-60 mph in 6.89 seconds and the 1/4-mile in 15.26 seconds. The R35 meanwhile achieved 0-60 mph in 3.32 seconds and the 1/4-mile came in just 11.27 seconds. It shows just how much progress Nissan made from the R32, to the R35, which braked in just 32 meters, joint top with the R34!
